Welcome to 8th Grade Science!
Hello! My name is Ms "Q" (Quinones) and I will be your science teacher this year!
This is my 21st year teaching science and I couldn't imagine teaching any other subject. Science is exciting because it is always changing as technologies are improved upon and new discoveries are made. This year you will be learning about Chemistry/The Periodic Table of Elements, Newton's Laws, Thermal Energy, Wave Energy, Genetics, The Geologic Time Scale/Fossils and Climate Change.
It is my goal to spark and encourage your curiosity about the living and non-living parts of this world.
A little About Me!
I was born and raised in North Bergen. I attended Lincoln School, NBHS and graduated from Florida Atlantic University where I studied Anthropology, Biology and Environmental Science. I have ALWAYS loved science. I was the neighborhood "explorer", collecting ladybugs and snails and hunting for snakes. When I graduated college I volunteered at the Bronx Zoo. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! I was able to work with giraffes, gorillas, monkeys, lions, bears, bats and zebra...just to name a few. These days you can often find me photographing birds and other wildlife at local environmental parks and wildlife reserves.
My interests have always been based in science and I love nothing more than to share my passion for science with my students. It is my goal to instill a love of nature and ALL living things in each and every one of you so that you can become advocates for our home, planet Earth.
I have 2 daughters. My oldest is attending Montclair State perusing her masters degree and my youngest is in the dance program at High Tech. We LOVE being outdoors, hiking, exploring and going to the beach. We have made it our goal to visit as many National Parks as possible. So far we have visited Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Zion and Bryce National Parks.
I look forward to sharing my passion for science and the natural world with all of you.
